GENERAL ESSAY: ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING
Objectives:

To expose the learner to the nuances of
teaching English in the Indian scenario.

To expose the learner
to the latest developments in Indian ELT scenario.

To expose the learner
to the major precepts of Educational Linguistics, keeping in mind the ELT
context of India(curriculum designing/syllabus framing).

To expose the learner
to the major precepts of Sociolinguistics and Psycholinguistics.

To encourage the
postgraduate students of English to have independent opinion and views about
Indian ELT scenario and to enable them to effectively use the available
resources like the web resources, case studies and the books to support their
arguments.
Methodology:
Lectures, Class Group Discussions, Case Studies and
Supplementary Study Materials
Aspiring
teacher candidates to interview part-ii English teachers and students, and to
make regular classroom visits for observation.
Evaluation:
Oral
Presentations, Outline of the essay on each of the ten units, and Written
Assignments
